Potty Training Tips
Kennel Train First (Use a large crate, or small exercise pen. Put bedding on one side & Pee Pad on the other side but make sure they are touching. Always make sure your puppy has water available.) Many puppies will not be physically able to go more than 3-4 hours without a potty break until they are 1 year old, so it is important to provide an area for them to potty overnight or if you have to leave them for more than 3 hours during the day.
Take your puppy out first thing in the morning
Take your puppy out every 2-3 hours during the day.
Take your puppy out within 15 minutes after he/she eats and as soon as he/she wakes from a nap
Reward when a potty trip is successful (hugs, praise and loving)
Make sure that every potty trip is at least 10-15 minutes long to give your puppy time to play.
We use a 4’x4′ exercise pen in our house with the puppies. They are pee pad trained and during the day they go outside to potty, but they will need to learn their new environment and where you want him/her to go. Starting at 6 weeks old we lead them outside and they follow us to the grass to potty, and they catch on quickly.
